Welcome to the home page for the Hope Now project. Take a look at What's New in our web. Introduction: Many believe there is a primary root cause of most global problems for that component which can be attributed to humans. Some problems have many causes, but if a portion of the cause relates to humans, then there is one primary root cause: human population exceeding environmental carrying capacity. Considerable study indicates that exceeding carrying capacity in a given region can contribute to: war, poverty, disease, and environmental exploitation (including global warming). This project is a non-governmental experiment to test the viability of a three-pronged strategy for managing human population levels globally. If it demonstrates potential, it may be scaled up to the governmental level. First Prong: Global Voluntary Free Birth Control + Incentives (FBC+I)Voluntary PAID Birth Control + Incentives. The cost of the procedure is paid for, but additionally the recipients receive cash, goods, and services as incentives. The current model allows for $1,500 to men and $4,500 to women as a maximum program benefit over and above the cost of the birth control procedure. The program does allow for regional differences so for example the payout can be higher in the U.S. than that. For some 60% of the World's population, $4,500 USD is close to three-year's salary. The program is available to any individual, but hardship situations have highest priority for receiving benefits. The primary purpose of birth control is to manage human population levels to free up resources for the children already here, and reduce the impact of human consumption on the biosphere. This is done simply by setting how much funding is available or in other words how many people can receive services. The way this manages population is through attrition, from less people having children. There is a simple online interactive spreadsheet available under the Archives link which allows you to adjust program variables and see a theoretical impact on global population levels. Second Prong: Governmental DisincentivesNon-Voluntary Governmental Programs. The Hope Now project is privately operated, but it does recognize the global need for the removal of tax incentives for having children in nations where such incentives exist. Further, the addition of tax disincentives to discourage large families may be necessary. Such non-voluntary measures are not popular but many believe are a necessary reality of our times. Third Prong: Education.Globally there is an ongoing need for education in ecology principles such as carrying capacity, and our place as humans within the global ecosystem and biosphere. There are many other topics, such as global warming, the consumption footprint, the impact of species extinction on food chains, resource exploitation such as mining and clear cutting, pollution, disease, poverty, war and their relation to global human population numbers. People world-wide need to grow up with a strong understanding of these and related concepts.
What's NewThe following is a list of recent additions to our web. Whenever we publish a paper, write a specification, submit a status report, or add anything else to our web, we'll put a notice here. Every month we'll remove the oldest items. The most recent changes are listed first, and each item is linked to the page with the updated content.
